On the back of a million drama reservations, costume drama Moonlit Reunion <子夜歸> topped the web drama popularity charts for three consecutive days after premiering on the 18th. However, its promotion period was abruptly cut short when sudden news broke that lead actor Xu Kai (許凱) had a real-life girlfriend — little-known actress Xu Lisha (許荔莎)!
Xu Kai’s Scandal Snowballs
When Xu Kai’s agency boss Yu Zheng (于正) furiously condemned it as “fake news, already reported to law enforcement”, Xu Lisha spent hours posting evidence of their relationship, the internet was sent into a frenzy.
After being exposed as Xu Kai’s girlfriend, Xu Lisha became the target of cyberbullying from netizens. On the 22nd, she shocked the public by revealing that she and Xu Kai were actually exes, further naming actress Zhao Qing (趙晴) as the reason for their breakup. “I am not Xu Kai’s current girlfriend. She accused him of cheating, retorting to Yu Zheng’s denial. “What, so I’m cheated on and cursed at, and now I should be arrested too?” She even pieced together a timeline, claiming some of the photos and screenshots came from other supposed “ex-girlfriends,” hinting that more shocking details could surface.
Xu Kai’s Studio Denies Claims
Xu Lisha also disclosed that Xu Kai’s manager knew about their relationship. Xu Kai once said he was willing to go public, but worried it would negatively impact her and her family. She did not shy away from liking Xu Kai’s promotional posts for Moonlit Reunion and even shared the song “I Love You So” — echoing Xu Kai’s social media handle “Xu Kai soso.” Fans also dug up her old secondary account, where she had once posted sweet chat logs, where Xu Kai told her, “There are fruits in the fridge, if you want to eat, I’ll wash them for you,” and her playfully replying, “I want to eat the food you cook,” to which he responded, “I’ll cook for you when I finish work.”
As the controversy spiraled, Xu Kai’s studio quickly issued a statement denying the relationship. Yu Zheng also emphasized that Xu Kai is currently single, labeling Xu Lisha as a “sasaeng fan.” He stated that the two had not been in contact since 2021 and that she was fabricating rumors, adding that legal action had been initiated. The studio stressed that the leaked chat records were forged, while the supposed hotel encounter with Zhao Qing – an actress under the same studio – was merely for “work guidance.” Zhao Qing herself also released a statement, declaring she is single and that the online claims of being a “mistress,” “affair,” or “third party” are all false, reserving her right to pursue legal action.
Xu Lisha Apologizes for Implicating Xu Kai’s Co-star
Unexpectedly, Xu Lisha later issued an apology to actress Tian Xiwei (田曦薇), writing “Tiantian (Tian Xiwei) is very beautiful, I like her, I’m sorry to Moonlit Reunion”.
The rising starlet had been dragged into the mess when the scandal broke right in the middle of the drama’s fourth day of broadcast, just as the story was reaching its sweet romantic arcs between the male and female leads, thus cutting its promotion period short.
