21st November 2025 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong screen veteran Lam Suet, 61, has spent close to four decades in the industry, first entering film work in the mid‑1980s through friends in the stunt community before moving from crew duties to bit parts. His talent caught the eye of director Johnnie To, leading to memorable turns in The Mission and PTU, and a prolific career spanning comedies and crime thrillers. Lam has drawn fresh attention on the mainland this year following his appearance in a Chinese film. However, his recent outing at the Golden Boy premiere shifted discussion to his health after viewers highlighted a prominent mark on the left side of his face.

Footage from the Golden Boy event, widely circulated online, showed Lam forcefully denying rumours about massive debts, yet Mainland social media focused more on what appeared to be a dark patch on his cheek, with some observers claiming it looked markedly larger than in previous public appearances. Mainland reports cited commenters who felt he looked unwell and speculated whether the patch could indicate acanthosis nigricans, a skin condition sometimes associated with obesity and elevated risks of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Lam’s weight has repeatedly prompted public concern, and he has previously offered an explanation for the facial marking. At September’s PTU 20th‑anniversary 4K re‑release event, he said doctors believed the mark might be linked to sleeping habitually on his left side and frequently resting his hand against that cheek, creating persistent pressure and a visible impression. At the Golden Boy premiere, he also joked about his attempts at dieting, describing a regime that began with porridge and fermented bean curd for breakfast but inevitably expanded into richer dishes such as braised pork with preserved vegetables at lunch and pork‑knuckle rice for dinner, quipping that the results did not appear to show on the scales.
