2nd November 2025 – (Taipei) Stanley Fung, the celebrated Hong Kong actor known for his deadpan comic style, died peacefully in Taiwan on the evening of 31st October at the age of 81. Friends confirmed that he had, in recent months, been in and out of hospital for treatment, with his health deteriorating significantly in the days leading up to his death.

Fung, who had lived in Taiwan for nearly four decades and kept a low public profile in recent years, had signed a do‑not‑resuscitate order during his lifetime. In accordance with his stated wishes, medical staff provided only basic supportive care and did not proceed with cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other invasive interventions when his vital signs declined sharply on Thursday night. Those close to him said he faced the end of life with composure and a pragmatic acceptance, allowing him to pass away calmly.

As his condition worsened, the hospital succeeded in reaching his nephew in Hong Kong, who then asked several long‑time friends to attend at his bedside in Taiwan. Some of those present reported a brief improvement in his vital readings that offered momentary comfort before his condition relapsed and ultimately failed to recover. Several friends had stepped out of the hospital and were called back within minutes, only to miss the chance for a final farewell.

Fung never married and had no children, with most of his close family based in Hong Kong. His nephew and niece‑in‑law arrived in Taiwan on Saturday to oversee arrangements. According to people familiar with his wishes, Fung had expressed a preference for a sea burial off Kinmen. A temporary memorial hall has been set up in Taoyuan while funeral plans are being finalised.
