With artificial intelligence’s advent and wide use across all sectors, TVB followed up on its earlier announcement that it was holding the first Asia-wide AI beauty pageant with another announcement on August 13, introducing “The first AI short drama in Hong Kong television” titled You Are The Only One In My Heart.
Pioneering Effort Met with Backlash
Generated by artificial intelligence, the trailer released on TVB’s social media teased a school youth drama where the male lead harbors a secret to be unveiled. While the drama length, premier date and time have yet to be revealed, the station announced the upcoming premiere of “the first A.I. generated drama series in Hong Kong television”.
Centered around relationship themes like Asian romantic shorts, the teaser sparked netizen backlash due to the unnatural appearance of its imagery and cinematography. Many questioned why the station did not use its own young generation of actors instead, wondering what benefits hundred per cent AI-generated content brought, given Hong Kong’s talents.
Others called out the drama as yet another example of TVB’s “cost-saving measures”, which they pointed out will only cause further decline and contribute to a vicious circle, while comments also exclaimed it was no wonder TVB has been on the receiving end of ridicule, as it was literally undermining the livelihoods of its own workers, rather than lending support.
