(Above) This marks Song Joong Ki’s first small-screen project in three years since Reborn Rich, and his first romance drama in nine years.
Actor Song Joong Ki is returning to the romance genre with My Youth after a nine-year absence! He takes on the role of “Sun Woo-hae,” a former child actor who burned out too early in life, now a florist and novelist shrouded in mystery.
Could Not Ask for A Better Co-Star
At the press conference, Song Joong Ki shared, “It wasn’t intentional, but it’s been a long time since I last acted in a romance drama, so I’m really excited! Romance dramas seem to be the genre most actors want to do. After such a long time, I was lucky enough to come across a script that truly made my heart flutter. I feel very honored.”
Reflecting on his past works, he said, “Looking back at my previous roles in A Werewolf Boy, Space Sweepers, and Vincenzo, they were all characters who felt quite removed from everyday life and reality. I wanted to try portraying someone grounded and realistic. That’s when My Youth came to me, and honestly, I was very nervous while filming.”
He then joked, “I feel like if I get any older, I won’t be able to do romance dramas anymore.” Song Joong Ki also mentioned that his co-star was one of the biggest reasons he chose the project. “But the biggest, most certain reason from beginning to end was Chun Woo-hee. She’s truly amazing—the best partner I could ask for. Once everyone watches the drama, you’ll see just how lovely and captivating she is.”
My Youth tells the love story between Sun Woo-hae, who starts an ordinary life later than most, and Jung Ji-yeon, who is forced to disrupt her first love’s peaceful life in pursuit of her own success. After ten years, the two reunite as first loves who once supported each other through the darkest times of youth, rekindling the emotions of their most beautiful years.
