9th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) SoéPay has enabled Hong Kong merchants to accept in‑person contactless payments using Tap to Pay on iPhone, removing the need for dedicated payment terminals. The capability works with contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay and other digital wallets via the “SoéPay – Tap to Pay” iOS app.
At the point of sale, merchants simply prompt customers to hold a contactless card or device near the merchant’s iPhone to complete payment using NFC. Tap to Pay on iPhone supports on‑device PIN entry, including accessibility options, and is underpinned by iPhone’s built‑in security architecture. Card numbers and transaction data are not stored on the device or on Apple’s servers during processing.
The SoéPay implementation is compatible with major card schemes, including Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, American Express and JCB.
Onboarding has been streamlined. Eligible merchants with an iPhone XS or newer running the latest version of iOS can begin taking contactless payments in as little as 60 minutes once requirements are met. Registration consists of installing the app and completing in‑app Know Your Customer verification.
“We have rolled out Tap to Pay on iPhone for the first wave of merchant categories: taxi services, delivery, florists, pop‑up shops and personalised on‑site service providers. We see merchants effortlessly using their iPhones to accept contactless payments conveniently and securely, and believe these transformative benefits enhance both their efficiency and their brand image,” said Sam Or, Chief Revenue Officer at SoéPay.
Businesses in Hong Kong can also access device and data plan offers from Hong Kong Telecommunications when they sign up for Tap to Pay on iPhone through participating payment platforms.
