7th November 2025 – (Hong Kong) Speculation has emerged online regarding the authenticity of a social media account allegedly belonging to Dave Wong, the renowned Hong Kong-Taiwanese singer-songwriter celebrated throughout the 1980s and 1990s. An account has recently appeared on a mainland social platform, sharing posts that have sparked discussion among followers.

The account in question features mirror self-portraits of an older, heavier-set man bearing a resemblance to the ageing singer, accompanied by introspective captions. One recent post reflected melancholically on the passage of time, stating: “When you grow old, you will realise that what we wanted most… we already possessed at the very beginning. The price of growth is losing your original self.”

While some followers have expressed excitement at the potential return of their idol, with one commenting “I’ve been waiting for you to hold a concert,” others have questioned the account’s legitimacy. Sceptics have noted the account’s IP address is registered in Guangxi rather than Canada, where Wong is understood to have been residing, suggesting it may have been created by an impersonator or dedicated fan.

Wong, largely disappeared from the public eye following a reported vocal cord injury that significantly impacted his signature singing voice. After achieving sold-out concert success in mainland China during his later career, rumours of his formal retirement from music began circulating in 2020, with the artist himself reportedly acknowledging that his voice was no longer what it once was.
