18th November 2025 – (Vancouver) Joey Wang, long retired from the screen and now settled in Canada to focus on Buddhist practice, has in recent years opened a moxibustion clinic where she reportedly greets customers herself, drawing steady footfall. Fresh claims circulating online, however, accuse the former star of exploiting staff.
Screenshots of purported conversations shared on social media feature a user claiming her sister works at Wang’s clinic. While acknowledging Wang’s hands-on approach, the poster alleges poor treatment of employees. The clinic’s fees were described as steep — roughly C$480 to C$600 per session (about HK$2,658 to HK$3,323) — yet, according to the allegation, licensed acupuncturists are paid only C$30 per hour (around HK$166), leaving some staff struggling to cover rent.
Further accusations in the viral posts claim that when employees requested pay rises, Wang initially feigned misunderstanding before responding that the shop had ample customers and that staff could stay or leave as they wished. Commenters alleged a disparity between a courteous public demeanour and, behind the scenes, a confidence in her brand and customer base that left her unafraid of recruitment challenges. Some lamented that the controversy had shattered their idealised image of the “goddess” of the screen.
Amid the claims, other online comments also surfaced from individuals saying they paid C$600 for a moxibustion session and suffered burns, adding fuel to the discussion. Wang has not yet publicly responded to the allegations, and the veracity of the claims remains unverified.
