5th November 2025 – (Kuala Lumpur) Malaysian rapper Namewee remained at Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur overnight after presenting himself in the early hours of Wednesday, following nearly a day without contact.
Shortly after 1am, three men and two women accompanied Namewee to the entrance of the district headquarters. Two of them left soon after, while the artist proceeded inside with his lawyer and two others. By 2.19am, Cheng and the companions had exited without answering media questions; the lawyer confirmed his representation and stated that Namewee was safe inside the station.
The development came amid an escalating investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, 31, at a Kuala Lumpur luxury hotel on 22nd October. Malaysian media reported on Tuesday that police had reclassified the case as murder and intended to arrest Namewee. After more than six hours of unsuccessful efforts to locate him, authorities placed him on a nationwide wanted list.
In a social media post around midnight Wednesday, Namewee said he had travelled from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur and had pre‑arranged to attend the station to report and assist inquiries. He stressed he would not abscond, noting he had previously responded voluntarily to seven separate warrants. A short video uploaded the same night showed him wearing a grey beanie and black mask on a busy street, appearing tired but otherwise in normal health.
Local outlets reported that on arrival at the station he briefly took a selfie at the entrance before meeting officers, and was later seen speaking with police at the doorway while paperwork was processed. Malaysian newspapers subsequently indicated he would remain in custody overnight.
According to earlier reports, police recovered nine blue tablets, believed to be ecstasy, totalling 5.12 grams, from Namewee at the hotel on 22 October. Urine tests later returned positive results for amphetamine, ketamine, cannabis and methamphetamine. Immigration records reviewed by investigators reportedly show no official record of Namewee leaving Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil was quoted as saying officers believed the artist had been monitoring the case through media and social platforms but had not presented himself, leading to an assessment that he had fled—an assertion superseded by his appearance at the station.
Namewee’s manager wrote on Instagram on Tuesday that contact with the artist had been lost amid unverified claims circulating online, but expressed confidence that he would report to police. The manager said he shared the family’s position in awaiting the outcome of the investigation and seeking clarity on all parties’ circumstances.
Namewee arrived at the station around 1.10am in a convoy of three cars believed to be driven by friends. He is expected to assist officers as enquiries continue into the death of Hsieh, widely known in Taiwan as the “nursing goddess”. Authorities have warned that subsequent steps in the case will depend on ongoing interviews and forensic findings.
