28th November 2025 – (Hong Kong) A No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Cheong House in Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po yesterday left at least 55 people dead and 72 injured as of 5pm on Thursday, prompting widespread public concern and the postponement or cancellation of multiple entertainment events across the city. Amid speculation over whether the 2025 MAMA Awards scheduled for Friday would be called off, organisers confirmed the ceremony will go ahead as planned.

In a statement today, the 2025 MAMA Awards extended deepest condolences to those affected by the disaster and announced a moment of silence during the event, alongside donations to support impacted families. The organisers said the awards bring together the sustained efforts of numerous artists, staff and fans, and expressed their belief in music’s power to heal and unite during difficult times. Production will be carefully adjusted to deliver a thoughtful performance that conveys care and strength, they added.

As a mark of respect, the ceremony will include a period of mourning, with the event adopting “Support Hong Kong” as its guiding theme to offer positive energy to the city. The statement said music can rally the community, lift spirits and provide courage as people move forward together, concluding with a message of solidarity with Hong Kong during this period of grief.
