28th November 2025 – (Hong Kong) Asia’s largest K-pop awards will proceed in a curtailed format at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium on Friday and Saturday, with organisers scrapping the red-carpet segment and revising performances in the wake of the deadly Tai Po blaze. Local boy band MIRROR on Friday became the latest act to pull out of the two-day 2025 MAMA Awards, following earlier withdrawals by Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-fat.
MIRROR’s management, Makerville, announced via the group’s official Instagram account that the 12-member outfit would not perform, citing respect and mourning for those affected by the Wang Fuk Court disaster. The MAMA Awards committee said the ceremony and live broadcast will go ahead as scheduled, but the red carpet has been cancelled and the programme adjusted. A moment of silence is planned as part of the proceedings, with organisers saying they hope to offer comfort and positive support during a difficult period for the city.
The decisions come amid a toll that, by Friday morning, stood at 94 dead — including a firefighter — and 76 injured, among them 11 firefighters, after flames erupted at Wang Cheong House on Wednesday and swept through seven other blocks at the Wang Fuk Court estate. The rescue operation entered a third day as authorities continued searches and damping-down work at the scene of Hong Kong’s worst fire in decades.
This year’s MAMA Awards mark the event’s first Hong Kong staging in seven years and will take place at the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium, roughly four times the capacity of AsiaWorld–Arena, where the ceremony was last held. Organisers said content and production have been prudently revised to reflect the city’s sombre mood while maintaining the core elements of the awards and live show.
