12th November 2025 – (Kuala Lumpur) Rapper Wee Meng Chee, popularly known as Namewee, will be released on police bail tomorrow, according to Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar, who told Malaysiakini that investigators have so far found no leads in the case file linking him to the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin.
The Attorney-General said police had been instructed to continue inquiries and stressed that there is currently no evidence indicating the suspect’s involvement in causing the victim’s death. He added that the Attorney General’s Chambers would take appropriate action should new findings emerge.
Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadli Marsus earlier confirmed that the investigation papers had been referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor today and that further directions were awaited, with Namewee’s remand due to expire tomorrow. Typically, a decision is made at the end of an extended remand on whether to charge or release a suspect.
Hsieh, known online as Iris Hsieh or “Nurse Goddess”, was found dead in a hotel bathroom on Jalan Conlay on 22 October. The case, initially treated as a sudden death, was reclassified as murder on 4 November. Namewee attended Dang Wangi police station on 5 November to lodge a report and assist with inquiries, after which police secured a six-day remand that was extended by three days on 10 November.
Separately, Namewee was arrested on 22 October in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room after police allegedly found nine pills suspected to be Ecstasy. He was subsequently charged on 24 October with drug possession and use, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail, with the drug matters listed for mention on 18 December.
