10th November 2025 – (Kuala Lumpur) Malaysian rapper Namewee, also known as Wee Meng Chee, will remain in police custody following an extension of his remand for three more days until 13th November as authorities investigate the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin. Wee surrendered to the police on 5th November, with his lawyer confirming the extension of his remand. Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus announced the remand extension, stating that investigations into the case are ongoing. Wee’s initial remand period was set to end on 10th November, but an extension was sought to allow for further inquiries.
Hsieh, known as the “nurse goddess” for her nursing background and beauty, was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur on 22nd October. The incident, initially classified as a sudden death, was reclassified as murder on 4th November, with Wee involved in the circumstances surrounding her demise.
Wee expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation in an Instagram post, emphasising his commitment to providing explanations to the public and the deceased’s family. The rapper has a history of voluntarily cooperating with authorities in the past when required.
The case’s reclassification as murder has prompted a thorough investigation, with toxicology and post-mortem reports expected to take several months to complete. Wee, a controversial figure known for addressing social and political issues in his music, faces serious legal repercussions if found guilty of involvement in Hsieh’s death.
