22nd October 2025 – (Hong Kong) Lanzhou beef noodle brand Ma Ji Yong has inaugurated its first international outlet in Hong Kong, establishing the city as the initial step in its global expansion strategy. The opening marks the first time the mainland Chinese restaurant chain has operated outside its domestic market.

The brand’s parent company, Shanghai Huaqiao Catering Management Co Ltd, will utilise its newly established Hong Kong office to coordinate regional operations across Hong Kong, Macao, and Southeast Asia. Deputy General Manager Zenna Huang noted that Hong Kong’s diverse culinary landscape and sophisticated consumer base provide an ideal platform for international brand development.

Invest Hong Kong, the government department responsible for foreign direct investment, welcomed the establishment. Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Arnold Lau characterised Hong Kong as providing mainland enterprises with a strategic gateway to international markets, describing the city as an effective springboard for global expansion.

Company representatives highlighted several factors influencing their location decision, including robust intellectual property protections and the city’s reputation as a regional hub for culinary innovation. The brand intends to implement digital ordering systems and international membership platforms tailored to overseas customers through its Hong Kong operations.

Founded in 2019, Ma Ji Yong operates over 360 directly managed restaurants throughout mainland China, specialising in traditional Lanzhou beef noodles prepared with handmade noodles and standardised operational procedures. The Hong Kong establishment represents the company’s initial venture into international markets, with plans for further regional expansion currently in development.
