21st November 2025 – (Shanghai) Chinese technology firm Huawei has unveiled a pioneering artificial intelligence framework designed to significantly enhance the utilisation of computing resources. The innovation, introduced in collaboration with academic partners at a forum in Shanghai on Friday, addresses a critical bottleneck in the AI industry’s expansion.
The newly open-sourced technology, named Flex:ai, enables a single AI chip to be partitioned into multiple virtual units, with a partitioning granularity as precise as ten percent. This “one-card-performing-multiple-tasks” capability, facilitated by flexible resource isolation, is projected to increase average compute utilisation by thirty percent in applicable scenarios.
Huawei’s Vice President, Zhou Yuefeng, presented the framework, highlighting that the company will provide global access to the complete suite of its core technologies through the open-source initiative. The move comes as the rapid growth of the AI sector fuels immense demand for computing power, with low utilisation rates and significant wastage currently hindering industry progress.
