5th November 2025 – (Kuala Lumpur) Malaysian artist Namewee has been detained for six days to assist Taiwanese police in an investigation linked to the death of influencer Iris Hsieh. He appeared at a police station in the early hours today. The musician, who has kept his private life largely out of the public eye, was last year photographed with his make-up artist partner, Sarah, with whom he is understood to have been in a relationship for about 15 years.
Taiwanese media report that the pair have maintained a steady partnership and are often seen together. There have been suggestions that Namewee acquired property in Taiwan with a view to settling there, prompting speculation at the time that marriage could be on the horizon.
Reporters previously captured the couple after the YouTube Walk Bell Jhn Awards, attending two consecutive celebration gatherings before stopping at a convenience store. During the outing, Namewee was seen chatting animatedly while Sarah listened quietly, and the pair later returned to an address in Wanhua for the night. His management later described the premises as a company dormitory, though observers noted the couple’s easy rapport and routine familiarity.
Despite a public image some perceive as flirtatious, Namewee has said he is committed in relationships and has remained consistent with Sarah throughout his career. Whether touring internationally or working across multiple locations, she is frequently by his side. When mentoring female trainees, he has reportedly made a point of introducing them to Sarah—an approach seen by those close to them as emblematic of a discreet yet stable relationship.
