Netflix’s new series Genie, Make a Wish released fresh character posters and stills on September 4, starring the familiar duo Kim Woo Bin and Suzy Bae of Uncontrollably Fond, up next in a battle of brains (and banter) between a mischievous genie and a human master.
Kim Woo Bin: Genie With a Bad Streak
Kim Woo Bin plays mischievous lamp spirit Genie Iblis, awakened from a thousand-year slumber to grant three wishes to his human master. Surrounded by golden light, he wears a sly smile hinting at mischief with the tagline “Humans will eventually fall into corruption” next to him.
His new master is none other than Suzy’s character, the icy, emotionless Ka-young, whom despite her sweet smile is paired with the slogan “The only evil one in this world is me”, ready to transform into a spine-chilling expression of a dark heroine.
The two’s very first encounter sees the genie trying to bind her with a wish, but she brushes him off coldly with, “Get lost. Go to a hair salon instead”, leaving no doubt who is the tougher of the two!
In the drama stills, the genie is inexplicably summoned to a cabbage field in Korea, where his 188cm frame looks completely out of place among rows of green cabbages. Meanwhile, Suzy storms the streets of Dubai dressed to the nines, unfazed by the stares of passersby, while exuding a “queen of cool” aura that instantly establishes her ruthless persona. Viewers can’t help but wonder if these sworn enemies will evolve from “I can’t stand you” to “I can’t live without you”, for an eventual romantic end.
Genie, Make a Wish, a fantasy rom-com that tells the story of a hot-tempered genie and his even fiercer human master, locked in a dangerous yet flirtatious game of wishes, is set to air October 3, with multi-lingual options available.
