9th November 2025 – (Beijing) Unsubstantiated claims regarding the status of imprisoned Canadian-Chinese performer Kris Wu have resurfaced across multiple social media platforms. Speculative posts alleging the entertainer’s demise while in custody have gained traction online, though no official confirmation has been issued by relevant judicial authorities.
This represents at least the third instance this year of such unverified reports emerging concerning the former EXO member’s welfare. Similar speculation circulated in April without subsequent validation from prison officials or judicial bodies. Under standard Chinese judicial procedures, significant incidents involving detained individuals would necessitate formal disclosure by prison authorities or relevant judicial departments.
The timing of these rumours coincides with Wu’s 35th birthday on 6th November, which continued to attract messages of support from dedicated followers on social media channels. Concurrently, security monitors have identified fraudulent communications attempting to exploit the situation, including messages falsely offering virtual meeting opportunities with the incarcerated individual.
The entertainer, originally known as Wu Yifan, received a 13-year prison sentence in November 2022 following convictions for rape and group sexual misconduct, with subsequent deportation orders upon completion of his custodial term. The persistent absence of official verification regarding the recent claims continues to characterise the reports as unsubstantiated speculation within online communities.
