23rd December 2025 – (Hong Kong) This year’s Hong Kong New Year Countdown will be staged at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central, featuring a refreshed format that blends live musical performances with immersive light displays. Internationally renowned duo Air Supply will headline with a special set of their classic hits, joined by local stars Jay Fung and Cloud Wan. A children’s choir and the Hong Kong Police Band will also perform, building towards the midnight moment.
As part of the Immersive Light Show in Central, the façades of eight landmark buildings will carry projections of a giant countdown clock and festive visuals, followed by a three‑minute light sequence themed “New Hope, New Beginnings”. The spectacle is designed to share blessings with audiences on site and around the world as the city welcomes 2026.
In light of the sombre public mood following the fatal fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, there will be no New Year’s Eve fireworks display this year. The Hong Kong Tourism Board confirmed the countdown will run from 11.30pm on 31st December to 12.10am on 1st January at the Central venue, combining music and light to convey positivity and goodwill.
Live broadcasts will be carried across multiple platforms, including the HKTB’s website and social channels, as well as local broadcasters and streaming apps, enabling global audiences to take part in the countdown. Large outdoor screens will relay the event at Chater Garden and Edinburgh Place, while projections at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui will showcase the festivities. The glass façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai will display a giant countdown clock to mark the arrival of the new year with residents and visitors.
The HKTB will also uplink a satellite feed for international transmission. Special traffic and transport arrangements will be in place on the night, with the public advised to follow government notices. Citywide celebrations will complement the Central event, including Hong Kong Disneyland’s “New Year Countdown Moment” and the West Kowloon Cultural District’s inaugural countdown concert, with full listings available on the HKTB website to help residents and tourists plan their evening as Hong Kong steps into 2026.
