13th November 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Palace Museum will launch its landmark special exhibition, Ancient Egypt Unveiled: Treasures from Egyptian Museums, in Gallery 9 from 20th November 2025 to 31st August 2026, alongside more than 140 exhibition-themed merchandise items. The range, inspired by the narratives and symbols of ancient Egypt, will be available at two new pop-up stores and the existing museum gift shop, ART EXPRESS by The Commercial Press, from 20 November.
Jointly organised with Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), and supported by Bank of China (Hong Kong) as Strategic Partner with Cathay and UnionPay International as Major Sponsors, Ancient Egypt Unveiled is set to be Hong Kong’s largest, most comprehensive and longest-running presentation of Egyptian antiquities. Some 250 loans from seven major Egyptian museums — including recent discoveries from Saqqara — will be shown, spanning monumental statuary, stone stelae, mummy coffins and masks, jewellery, everyday artefacts and animal mummies.
To celebrate the opening, two dedicated retail spaces will debut on 20th November — outside the Palace Academy on LG/F and outside Gallery 9 on 4/F — complementing the ground-floor gift shop. Together they will offer a contemporary take on Egyptian themes across more than 140 items, including plush bag charms, tote bags, soft toys, stationery and lifestyle goods. Among the highlights are soft toys of the blue hippo and black cat, and the first Ancient Egypt Unveiled Blind Box series, featuring six mystery plush charms inspired by mummies, pharaohs and canopic jars.
Bolder designs feature on Eye of Re and Mummy tote bags, while practical pieces include Mummy Socks and a Mummy Thermal Bottle. A canopic jar-inspired line of knitted bags and crossbody pouches adds a playful note, and smaller keepsakes range from enamel magnets depicting deities, canopic jars and mummies to ritual-like metal bookmarks. A fragrance collaboration with wellness brand Rituals introduces home perfumes and wardrobe scents themed around Positivity (bergamot, neroli, vetiver), Love (raspberry, rose, patchouli) and Gratitude (peach blossom, lavender, vanilla). Renowned culinary brand DALLOYAU will also run a pop-up truck offering DA CHOCO crispy chocolates in Middle Eastern-inspired flavours with HKPM-branded packaging.
The museum will pair the exhibition with an extensive learning and engagement programme. Two keynote talks lead the series: Professor Yan Haiying of Peking University’s Department of History on 19th November, and Dr Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary-General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, on 20th November. Both will be livestreamed via HKPM’s WeChat video account. An audio tour curated by a leading Egyptologist will guide visitors through more than 20 exhibition highlights, while curator- or docent-led tours for the public and schools will run in Cantonese, Putonghua and English, available on a scheduled or on-demand basis.
Workshops and performing arts events will further broaden access for audiences of all ages. Family activities include the Little Pharaohs Family Workshop and Tour, exploring the origins of Egyptian jewellery with necklace-making using animal amulets; the Discover Pyramid Workshop, where participants examine pyramid engineering and design a pyramid-themed marble run; and Create Your Own Cat Temple, delving into sacred animal cults and recent finds related to the Egyptian Cat Temple before crafting a feline-inspired temple model. On 22nd November, the museum will stage a special Egyptian dance performance under Bank of China (Hong Kong) Presents: HKPM SHOWTIME!, and will support the 8th Hong Kong International Egyptian Dance Festival, featuring leading folkloric dance masters from Egypt.
To mark the opening, special offers include a Blind Box + Full Access Flex Ticket combo and public guided tours. In addition, until 30th November 2025, new, returning and renewing HKPM Friends members will receive a special-edition plush bag charm, an exclusive collectible not offered for sale. Visitors can consult the museum’s website for event details, tour schedules and registration information.
