15th November 2025 – (London) Hong Kong music composer Mark Lui, now 56, is enjoying a considerably more relaxed lifestyle in the United Kingdom following his decision to retire early and emigrate with his family in 2018. The renowned producer, who was just 49 at the time of the move, has recently disclosed that the immense work pressure in Hong Kong prompted his departure from the city’s music scene.
Now settled in Britain, Lui has adopted a more selective approach towards professional projects. He openly stated that he will only consider work commitments that come with a “comfortable fee,” a necessity he attributes to the UK’s higher tax rates. This pragmatic stance applies even to collaborations with close friends, ensuring his retirement remains financially sustainable and low-pressure.
The benefits of his new life were recently on display during the Lidong winter solstice festival. Lui took to social media to share a affectionate photograph with his wife, Jade Leung, accompanied by a caption that cleverly referenced a song title to express his devotion. The couple, dressed in matching outfits, were pictured in a tender head-to-head pose, though Lui appeared slightly weary, which he attributed to working on a new song demo.
His playful and humorous online persona was also evident in the interactions with followers. When commenters praised his wife’s appearance, Lui jestingly recalled a previous remark that she resembled another public figure, a quip that sparked both laughter and defence from his audience. Further demonstrating his light-hearted approach to his new domestic life, he humorously declined a query about working on a mainland China concert for Kelly Chen by citing his pressing household chores, such as cooking and cleaning.
