Former Hong Kong singer/ actress Rainky Wai (蔚雨芯) got entangled in legal troubles. Since fading from the entertainment industry, Rainky is now director of a medical aesthetics center and was formally charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) for allegedly defrauding a shareholder of $5.8 million Hong Kong dollars in investment. She was accused of exaggerating the cost of medical beauty equipment and center renovations and embezzled over HK$3.1 million in company funds. The case first began hearings on May 12 at Eastern Magistrates’ Court and Rainky returned to court recently.
Reading from a prepared statement, Rainky said, “I reserve all legal rights to pursue action against all malicious rumors or defamatory remarks. As for my current situation, I am facing this lawsuit and related matters with a positive and optimistic mindset. I also fully respect the court and will go through the proper legal process so there’s no need for everyone to worry. In terms of case details, I can’t reveal too much, but I can say with certainty that I have never done anything illegal and no investors have suffered any financial losses.”
When asked if she was worried, Rainky admitted she was afraid the incident might affect her reputation, saying, “Of course, I don’t want the media to take advantage of this and make a big news story but I have full confidence in my lawyer.” She also shared her business has not been affected and was running as usual.
