Roger Kwok (郭晉安) and Hilary Chong (莊子璇) recently made headlines over rumors of a “father-daughter romance.” On Oct 3, the two appeared together at a promotional event for TVB’s inheritance drama The Fading Gold (previously “Golden Forest” <金式森林>. During the media session, reporters requested to interview them as a pair, but the organizers arranged for actress Hera Chan (陳曉華) to stand between them, creating a visible “buffer zone”!
May-December Romance in The Fading Gold
While one of the drama’s highlights is the May-December romance between jewellery mogul Fong Yeung Tin (Roger) and Lam Ching (Hera), his wife junior by three decades, the film’s producer deliberately mimimized intimate contact and onscreen kissing between the two, in part to create a sense of suspense. When drama producer Lam Chi Wah (林志華) spilled that Hera really “fell for Roger” at one point during filming, Hera thanked Roger for giving her acting guidance, both to help her immerse into her character’s world, as well as extricate herself from the onscreen role later.
Addressing the real-life romance rumors between Hilary and himself, Roger told the press, “First of all, I wasn’t angry and actually found the rumors quite funny. But honestly, it’s been a long time since something like this happened. Sometimes I wonder why such gossip has to appear, as it can really cause unnecessary obstacles in life…Still, I believe both Hilary and I don’t react to such rumors at all.”
Hera Chan added, “I actually want to say—my first rumor was with Matthew Ho (何廣沛). It was just like Hilary now when she first entered the industry. Back then, I was so scared that I tried to avoid him (Matthew). Later, I realized these things come and go, so I stopped caring so much.”
As for her first-ever rumor in the industry being with Roger, Hilary said, “I honestly never imagined something like this would happen. When I first saw those reports, I was stunned and kept wondering why. Like what Hera said, at first I avoided him, but later I realized there was really no need to.”
