22nd December 2025 – (Hong Kong) Ken Choi, 64, has kept a low profile in recent years but recently reappeared on stage to perform. Footage shared online shows a noticeable increase in his weight. Despite opting for an oversized suit jacket to flatter his figure, it did little to conceal a pronounced abdomen and puffy facial features, leaving many viewers astonished and commenting, “How did he change so much?”
Clips show Choi in a loose-fitting blazer attempting to streamline his silhouette, yet a simple arm movement made his enlarged midsection apparent. What surprised netizens most was the near‑absence of a defined neckline, with some remarking he looked “neckless” and was “hardly recognisable”. Even so, fans present at the event defended him, saying his vocal delivery remained assured and his dedication to music was still moving.

Choi’s name inevitably recalls the remark that reshaped his career. While hosting TVB’s Jade Solid Gold in 1985, he was heard saying, in reference to Leslie Cheung’s award clip, “A moment’s brilliance may not be eternal.” The line was widely perceived at the time as dismissive, igniting controversy that precipitated a rapid downturn in his career, with media later grouping him among the so‑called “four eccentrics”.
In recent interviews, Choi has revisited the episode, clarifying that he had been cut off before completing his thought: “I meant to add that I hoped Leslie would always retain that eternal brilliance.” He said the interruption by co‑host Luk Man‑yee led to a misunderstanding that lingered for decades.
As his career waned, Choi was rumoured to have faced financial strain and, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, reportedly served as an auxiliary police officer for a period to make ends meet.
