29th November 2025 – (Taipei) Hong Kong is in mourning after Wednesday’s (26 November) five-alarm blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, which left more than a hundred people dead or injured. Members of the entertainment industry have rallied with donations and support to help survivors rebuild. Against this backdrop, actor Shawn Yue, who relocated to Taiwan in recent years, sparked criticism over an Instagram post deemed insensitive during a period of public grief.
Netizens noted that on Thursday (27th November), Yue shared a black-and-white photo of himself riding a motorcycle. The leisure-themed post, coming a day after the disaster, was widely condemned as ill-judged and indifferent to the tragedy. As the backlash intensified online, Yue swiftly removed the post. He later reposted multiple news reports about the five-alarm fire on his Instagram Stories, seemingly to signal concern over the disaster and quell public criticism.
